Allow File Download in Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer has blocked me from downloading files. How do I fix this?


Enable "Automatic prompting for file downloads."

  1. In IE, go to the ‘Tools’ menu
  2. Choose ‘Internet Options’
  3. Click on ‘Security’ tab
  4. Select the ‘Internet’ icon

  5. Click on the ‘Custom Level’ button

  6. Scroll down through the ‘Security Settings’ list to ‘Downloads’ section
  7. Choose ‘Enable’ under ‘Automatic prompting for file downloads’

  8. Click ‘OK’ to close the ‘Security Settings’ box
  9. Click ‘OK’ to close the ‘Internet Options’ box

With the setting now set to Enabled, you will get a box (like the one below) asking if you want to open the file or save it.
