Keystone Innovation Zone
Mansfield University partners with local Economic Development Agencies for a Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) Planning Grant to benefit Bradford and Tioga Counties.
The program's goals are to:
- encourage the creation of new businesses,
- grow and expand the entrepreneurial sector of the Pennsylvania economy,
- maximize the resources that exist near universities,
- facilitate the transfer of technology to existing companies, and
- improve the economy and attractiveness of Pennsylvania communities.
Bradford and Tioga Counties have been awarded a $50,000 KIZ Planning Grant. Alongside the Central Bradford Progress Authority, Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission, and Tioga County Development Corporation, Mansfield University played a crucial role in acquiring this particular planning grant.
The partnership is currently applying for a KIZ Full Implementation Grant to continue forward on the path towards economic development and betterment.
If awarded an implementation grant, the KIZ will target the University's academic strengths directly related to the region's industry clusters, including: Business and Economics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry, Geography and Geology, Mathematics and Computer Information Science and the department of Health Sciences.
