Spring 2012 Event Schedule

Entrepreneurship Institute 2012      Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 

 An intensive 2 day workshop that teaches idea generation, market assessment, and how to develop and implement your idea. Lead by Jeffery Babin, a venture capitalist and professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Includes presentations, exercises to develop your skills, and guest talks by successful entrepreneurs.

This year the Entrepreneurship Institute will be held at the University of Scranton.  Open to Mansfield University students, free of charge.  We will be departing early Friday morning, Feb. 10, stay overnight, and return Saturday evening, Feb. 11 after the workshop ends. The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour is coming to Mansfield University on Tuesday, September 14. The only national tour of its kind, this event will bring to campus some of the top young entrepreneurs in the country. Michael Simmons, Nick Friedman and Scott Becker, keynote speakers, will tell you how they succeeded - really. There will be a "Dream - Action" workshop, a networking event, and a panel discussion with Michael, Nick, and local entrepreneurs where you can ask questions.

Michael Simmons started his first business when he was 16, was identified as one of the top national entrepreneurs under 30, and is co-founder and owner of the Extreme Entrepreneurship tour.

Nick Friedman is a founder of the "College Hunks Hauling Junk" franchise now generating over $2 million in sales after only four years.

Scott Becker is the co-founder and CTO of Invite Media. He is an engineer with a background in computational biology.

This highly interactive workshop/seminar will help you succeed in your career or business by introducing you to the "Entrepreneurial Mindset" and help you begin an action plan towards success. Admission is free. There will be snacks and refreshments.

Spring 2010 Event Schedule

Entrepreneurship Institute

This is a three-day business planning workshop great for beginners. Sponsored by the Northeast Pennsylvania Technology Institute, a consortium of 14 N. E. PA universities and colleges, it is designed to immerse students in the business idea and business planning process. The first part will be held at Misericordia University, and consists of an idea session Friday night and a mentored business plan development session on Saturday. Students will have one week to polish their plan and then make a presentation at Wilkes University the next Saturday.

Open to MU students only. Participation is free. There will be an overnight February 5. Room and meal expenses to be determined. For more information or to register, contact the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

"Build your Business" Workshop

This three-hour workshop covers all the basics of starting a business in Pennsylvania. Learn about business structure, licenses and registrations, taxation, market research and local business development resources. Then learn how to develop a business plan required to get financing and always an important tool to manage your business.

Presented by Sue Dillon, Small Business Development Center of Scranton University

Introduction to E-marketing

Listed in the Personal and Professional Development catalog for Spring 2010. This three-part workshop is designed to help small businesses use electronic media as part of an overall marketing plan. It will include how to design web sites for best results, email marketing, and social media to market your business.

Nina Lucero "Starting and operating a father-daughter partnership"

In 2008 Nina Lucero, a student at Mansfield University, and her father, Rick Lucero, head of the Education and Special Education Department, opened their new bar on Main Street in Mansfield named "Changos" (which means monkey in Spanish). While Nina manages the day-to-day business, this unique partnership is doing well in Mansfield. Nina will talk about the startup and development of their business.

Adrian and Stephanie Walker "Building a home based business"

These MU grads have developed home based businesses at their residence in Wellsboro. Stephanie operates a wreath manufacturing business and Adrian is a graphic arts major turned into custom cake maker. Come hear how they started and operate their businesses. Visit the Walker Cake Co. website.

Joe Grace on "Recognizing opportunity in the Marcellus Gas Boom"

Joe Grace, a resident of Tioga County, will talk about the Marcellus Shale gas boom, its economic impacts on our region and community, and what business opportunities are emerging as a result. As a veteran entrepreneur, Joe bought the entire Mansfield Industrial Park from the local development agency, BOOM (Betterment Organization of Mansfield), to pursue many entrepreneurial opportunities resulting from the new gas industry.

Steve Keeler Presentation: Cayuga Records and C3 Studio

This presentation will explain how a student run record label named Cayuga Records, and a student run video production studio, named C3 Studios, were formed, and how they operate. Dr. Steve Keeler, Chairperson of English/Humanities/Communications Division and Director of Telecommunications/Electronic Media Programs/WDWN-FM at Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY will make the presentation. Dr. Keeler was instrumental in acquiring grant funds for this project and in establishing these projects.
