Dr. Kathryn Thorne earned a B.A. in Geography with minors in Urban and Regional Studies and French from Ball State University. She received a M.A. in Geography from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario in 1983 and a Ph.D. in Geography from Michigan State University in 1991.Her research interests are in map perception and map reading abilities. Before coming to Mansfield, Dr. Thorne held numerous positions in government, research and not-for-profit organizations as well as working as a free lance cartographer. She has received awards for excellence in cartographic design from both the Canadian Cartographic Association and the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping.

Dr. Thorne advises the Geography: Mapping Technology program. She teaches Information Graphics, Human Geography, Cartography, Modern Cartographic Techniques, Seminar in Cartographic Programming, Geographic Research and The Geography of the US and Canada. kthorne@mnsfld.edu (570) 662-4612
