How do I know if I quality for FIT and Freeze Housing Rates?

All full-time undergraduate degree seeking students' at Mansfield University qualify for FIT and the FREEZE Housing Rates programs. Students enrolled in summer and/or winter terms, on-line degree programs, graduate degree programs, dual enrollment coursework, and/or second degree seeking students do not qualify for a rate freeze.


What is FREEZE Individualize Tuition or FIT?

A student's tuition rate does not change for 8 semesters (fall and spring only) over five consecutive years; this allows a student to take two semesters off without seeing a tuition rate increase. FIT does not apply to students enrolled in summer and/or winter terms, on-line degree programs, graduate degree programs, dual enrollment coursework, and/or second degree seeking students.


How does FIT and/or Freeze Housing Rates affect financial aid eligibility? 

FIT or the FREEZE Housing Rates programs do not affect financial aid eligibility. For more information regarding financial aid, please visit the financial aid web site.


What happens if I enroll in fewer than 12 credits per semester?

The number of enrolled credits has NO impact on FIT and Frozen Housing Rates.


What does five years or eight semesters equate to? 

Each year is made up of two semesters, one fall and one spring. Five years equals 10 fall and spring semesters. Your tuition rate in frozen for eight semesters.


What happens if I leave Mansfield for a period of time? 

A student may suspend studies at Mansfield University for up to two semesters; so long as they return by the beginning of the third semester they will have the same tuition rate when they left. When a student returns to Mansfield University after a cumulative absence of more than two semesters, their FIT tuition rate will be frozen at the new current rate. This resets the clock to eight semesters over five consecutive years. If a student leaves a Mansfield University residence hall and wishes to return, the housing rate will be frozen at the current rate. Housing rates are established each year by the Mansfield University Trustees.


Does FIT and Freeze Housing Rates apply to summer and winter terms? 

FIT and Freeze Housing Rates do not apply to the summer and winter terms.


Does FIT apply to online courses? What if I take a blend of online and on-campus coursework at the same time?

FIT applies to online courses only if a student is taking a blend of online and on campus coursework.


Will FIT affect my scholarships?

FIT does not affect any other scholarship.


How does FIT, Commonwealth Scholars and TEAM work together for new students? 

FIT is a program that freezes tuition charges. The Commonwealth Scholars and TEAM programs are merit award programs that reduce the frozen rate as long as academic performance is maintained. Will FIT change Commonwealth Scholars and TEAM guidelines for current students already in the program?

No. Commonwealth Scholars and TEAM guidelines are not impacted by FIT.


Do all State System (PASSHE) schools have the same tuition rate? 

The Board of Governors (BOG) annually sets the base per-credit tuition for all PASSHE schools (typically in July).


Is the per-credit tuition model active at all State System schools? 

Four of the 14 PA system schools use the per-credit model for its students.


Are all State System schools freezing tuition? 

Mansfield University is the only school to freeze the tuition rate. By freezing your tuition for eight semesters, your total cost to graduation is less, thereby saving you money.


Do all State System (PASSHE) schools have the same housing rates? Are all State System schools freezing housing rates?

On-campus residential housing costs vary across the state system. Mansfield University is the only school freezing housing rates.


Does FIT save me money compared to other schools with a per-credit tuition system? 

Yes. Using a historical average of 3% tuition increase per year, FIT will save you money over your four years at MU.


Is FIT optional? Can I opt for the flat rate tuition model?

No; as of fall 2016, FIT was established as the only tuition model used at Mansfield University.


I heard FIT and Freeze Housing Rates are both pilot programs. When do they start and end?

FIT began in the fall of 2016 and FREEZE Housing Rates will commence in fall 2017. Both FREEZE programs are evaluated annually. Students enrolled in the FIT and/or FREEZE Housing Rates programs will continue to have those benefits while they complete their degree, even if the programs cease to be offered to incoming students.


Do I have to pay high course content fees?

No. High course content fees were discontinued in fall 2016.


Does FIT and/or Freeze Housing Rates also freeze the fee rates?

No. Mansfield's fee structure is assessed annually.


Does FIT and/or Freeze Housing Rates have a GPA requirement? 

No, neither program (FIT or FREEZE Housing Rates) have a GPA, or any other academic requirements.


If I am a high school student taking courses at the University, do I qualify for FIT?

No. Only full-time undergraduate students qualify for FIT. High School students will be charged the State System per-credit rate or the rate associated with the dual enrollment agreement(s).
