We had a successful Take Your Child To Work Day on Thursday April 24!
More than 70 children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews of MU employees enjoyed a full day on campus. They were kept busy learning about bee keeping, taking a yoga class, being a campus chef, growing a plant, hearing ghost stories, and many other topics which Mansfield faculty, staff, and retirees provided. The day ended at Decker Gymnasium where the kids were able to chose from swimming, soccer, and field hockey. They even received a treasure bag filled with goodies!
Thank you to ALL of the volunteers who guided children around campus. Thank you to the presenters who taught the children a little something while they were here. Finally, thank you to the parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles who brought the children and enjoyed lunch with them!
Annual Service Recognition Celebration
The annual Service Recognition Celebration was held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in Manser Hall North Dining Room. This event was our 35th year to honor employees who have served Mansfield University for 10, 15, 20, 25, & 30 years. Those employees who have retired within the last year or will be retiring this summer were also recognized.
We also celebrated Tammy Felondis who was named Employee of the Year. The Employee Recognition Committee selected Tammy, Director of Budget Planning, after a campus-wide nomination process.
Peggy Dettwiler, Professor of Music, Gretchen Sechrist, Associate Professor of Psychology, Janeen Sheehe, Professor and Chair of the Health Science Department, and Jessica Trump, Director and Chair of TRiO Student Support Services, were also finalists for the honor
Among the comments made on the nominations Tammy received were, “For the past 24 years Tammy has been a dedicated employee of Mansfield University, with service throughout the campus including Human Resources and Finance and Administration…She has assisted with various interim positions including Interim Director of Purchasing and Interim V.P. for Finance and Administration…Tammy readily volunteers for various ‘extracurricular activities’ including commencement and move-in days.”
The Health Sciences Department received the Spotlight Award, which is given annually to a department that exemplifies the four facets of the Mansfield Creed: Character, Scholarship, Culture and Service. The winner was decided after a campus-wide nomination process.
The nomination concluded by saying, “With its major contributions and readily apparent commitment to the success of Mansfield University, its students and community, the Health Sciences Department is an especially worthy recipient of the 2014 Spotlight Award.”
The MU Concert Choir, conducted by Peggy Dettwiler, provided entertainment. Music students Sarah Polinski and Heather Sitek also provided musical accompaniment during the luncheon. Karen Russell gave the welcome on behalf of the Mansfield University Council of Trustees.
In his closing remarks, MU President Fran Hendricks praised all those honored and thanked them for their service to Mansfield. “People often ask me to define excellence,” he said. “I would tell them that that excellence is in this room”
Congratulations to those who were honored!
Several employees offered a raffle with some of their items - below are the raffles and the list of winners:
Congratulations to the winners and thank you again to the employees who showed their crafts!
Search Teams, Hiring Managers, and Department Chairs will learn more about this in the near future!
Thank you to everyone who donated to The Giving Tree. Over 100 items were collected and donated to Tioga County Human Services who will be adding them to the local children's gift boxes to distribute for Christmas. They were very appreciative and thankful for our donations. These gifts of warmth will make a difference with many local families this holiday season. Thank you!
