Mission Statement
The mission of the Commonwealth University - Mansfield Chapter of SVA is to provide veterans and current service members with the resources, assistance, direction, and support necessary for the successful transition from military to civilian life. As well as help bridge the gap between Commonwealth University - Mansfield staff, faculty and administration who are military or veterans and other military/veteran students. As an organization we want to facilitate camaraderie and a good learning environment.

Faculty Spotlight
Dr. Jonathan C. Rothermel
Dr. Jonathan C. Rothermel, Associate Professor of Political Science at Mansfield University, served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1990-1996. Following Marine Corps boot camp (Parris Island), Marine Combat Training (Camp Lejeune), and Field Radio Operator School (29 Palms), he was activated for service in support of Operation Desert Storm. He reported to duty with a casualty replacement company at Camp Pendleton, California, because his reserve unit had already been deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Shield. After the successful liberation of Kuwait, he was de-activated from his duty station in California and joined his reserve unit in Reading, PA. Dr. Rothermel was assigned to India Battery, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marines, 4th Marine Division as a field radio operator. During his time with India battery, he provided communications support for artillery operations (155 mm howitzers) and was promoted several times. When he was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1996, he was the communications platoon sergeant (E-5).
