Bernard and Erna Bringe Establish the Major Brian Dix, '82 Instrumental Music Scholarship

Brian DixThe Major Brian Dix Instrumental Scholarship has been established in recognition of Mansfield University alumnus Major Dix's service in the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps. Major Dix was the commander of the Marine Drum & Bugle Corps from 1998 until his recent retirement in December 2014. As the fourth Director since its inception in 1934, Major Dix expanded the Corps' extensive repertoire, composing original music honoring American heroes. His musical message of the Marine Corps has been experienced by countless millions through live performances worldwide and on national television broadcasts.

In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, the Major Brian Dix Instrumental Music Scholarship will provide generous scholarship support to students at Mansfield University who have made formal commitments to the field of Instrumental Music or Music Education.

Mansfield University Pays Tribute to the Memory of Dr. Albert Dalmolen

DalmolenThe Mansfield University Department of Political Science is pleased to announce the establishment of the Albert Dalmolen Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Political Science, which will provide scholarship assistance for Political Science majors on the basis of academic merit, community involvement and financial need. During Dr. Dalmolen's nearly twenty years of service, he made an indelible impact on the entire Mansfield University community as an educator, mentor and friend who dedicated his life to instructing and inspiring students and colleagues.

The departmental leadership and service of Dr. Dalmolen were critical to the success of Mansfield University's Political Science program. He served as department chair, was the recipient of a U.S. State Department Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad Scholarship to India and at the request of the U.S. State Department, served two years as an Evaluator for these grants. Dr. Dalmolen earned the respect of many as reflected in such recognitions given to him as the Mitstifer Award given by the MU Faculty Development Committee and the MU Outstanding Faculty-Student Mentoring Award.

It has been a little more than a decade since Dr. Dalmolen's passing, but his reputation as an educator is legendary; marked by a sparkling intellectualism mixed with humor, sarcasm and kindness. His enthusiasm for his subjects was infectious and his ability to impact his passion and knowledge had a profound impact on so many of his is students. Today the rich and productive lives of graduates are Dr. Dalmolen's legacy. He closely followed the postgraduate success of his students and took great pride in their accomplishments. He continued to share his wisdom, vision, and encouragement with students long after their graduation day.

As a continuing tribute to his career, service, alumni, friends, colleagues and family pay tribute to his lasting legacy with the establishment of the Albert Dalmolen Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Political Science, as a permanent reminder of the pursuit of academic excellence, which he instilled in those who were influenced by him. Mansfield University Foundation is grateful for the generous matching $5,000 gift from an anonymous donor for providing an ongoing source of support for future generations of students majoring in Political Science and a lasting legacy in Dr. Dalmolen's memory.

Tioga County Board of Commissioners Establishes the Volunteer First Responders Scholarship Fund

The Tioga County Commissioners recently established the Tioga County Board of Commissioners Volunteer First Responders Scholarship Fund at the Mansfield University Foundation to help provide financial assistance to volunteer firefighters and other emergency services personnel as an incentive to keep volunteers active within the county and reward and recognize their hard work.

Members of the Military Scholarship Fund

In addition to the G.I. Bill and the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill, Mansfield University has established the Members of the Military Scholarship Fund. The purpose of this scholarship at Mansfield University is to provide recognition and financial assistance to Veterans and active-duty personnel to assist and enable them to pursue a college education and find lasting success on the home-front. These scholarships are supported by private contributions and are offered to eligible current members of the military and veterans who have been honorably discharged from military service.
