The Mansfield University Department of Political Science is pleased to announce the establishment of the Albert Dalmolen Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Political Science, which will provide scholarship assistance for Political Science majors on the basis of academic merit, community involvement and financial need. During Dr. Dalmolen's nearly twenty years of service, he made an indelible impact on the entire Mansfield University community as an educator, mentor and friend who dedicated his life to instructing and inspiring students and colleagues.
The departmental leadership and service of Dr. Dalmolen were critical to the success of Mansfield University's Political Science program. He served as department chair, was the recipient of a U.S. State Department Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad Scholarship to India and at the request of the U.S. State Department, served two years as an Evaluator for these grants. Dr. Dalmolen earned the respect of many as reflected in such recognitions given to him as the Mitstifer Award given by the MU Faculty Development Committee and the MU Outstanding Faculty-Student Mentoring Award.
It has been a little more than a decade since Dr. Dalmolen's passing, but his reputation as an educator is legendary; marked by a sparkling intellectualism mixed with humor, sarcasm and kindness. His enthusiasm for his subjects was infectious and his ability to impact his passion and knowledge had a profound impact on so many of his is students. Today the rich and productive lives of graduates are Dr. Dalmolen's legacy. He closely followed the postgraduate success of his students and took great pride in their accomplishments. He continued to share his wisdom, vision, and encouragement with students long after their graduation day.
As a continuing tribute to his career, service, alumni, friends, colleagues and family pay tribute to his lasting legacy with the establishment of the Albert Dalmolen Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Political Science, as a permanent reminder of the pursuit of academic excellence, which he instilled in those who were influenced by him. Mansfield University Foundation is grateful for the generous matching $5,000 gift from an anonymous donor for providing an ongoing source of support for future generations of students majoring in Political Science and a lasting legacy in Dr. Dalmolen's memory.

In June 2014, the class of 1964 will be celebrating 50 years since their graduation from Mansfield University. Reunion years are a good time to reflect on the experiences one had at college, reminisce about the lasting friendships made, celebrate with those who are still with us and honor those whose memory we still hold close. One such friend and MU alumnus is 1964 classmate Jerry Mattis. Jerry played football at Mansfield and became his team's Captain his senior year. He was known by many as a leader by example both on and off the field.
Last year, as Jerry's friend and former roommate, Terry Manning, looked forward to his 50th reunion he began to consider ways in which he could show support for the exceptional opportunities Mansfield afforded him and how he could help afford future students the same opportunities. As a result, Terry established the Terry and Michele Manning Athletic Scholarship Endowment. As a student he was the recipient of a scholarship his senior year which was instrumental in his obtaining his degree at Mansfield. Terry knew that this was the same leadership and support of future Mounties that Jerry would have also displayed at his 50th reunion next year.
That is why Terry and Jerry's friends and family, widow Rebecca (Mattis) Osborne, Christina Mattis, and Jeffrey Mattis have paid tribute to Jerry's lasting legacy and the leadership he exemplified through his life with the establishment of "The Jerry Mattis Scholarship Fund" at Mansfield University Foundation. This fund will assist future generations of Mansfield University student-athletes in their quest for knowledge, understanding and productive skills. This is an opportunity for those of us who gained so much from Jerry's friendship, leadership and mentoring to establish this fund as a permanent reminder of the pursuit of excellence, which he instilled in those who were influenced by him.
