Text: American Visions: The Epic History of Art in
America by Robert Hughes (N.Y.: Alfred A. Knopf, 1997).
1998.
Course Description: A comprehensive study of the heritage
of American art from colonial times through the twentieth century in
painting, sculpture and architecture, emphasizing movements, trends
and contributions. Prerequisites: ArH 1101 or permission of
Instructor.
Course Objectives: To develop an understanding and
critical awareness of the American art heritage from its early
beginnings to the present with an emphasis on innovations, trends
and contributions of artists and architects.
Course Requirements:
- Reading assignments from the text. (See Reading
Assignments, Book Report Due Date, Tests Due Dates under the
Course Documents button).
- Three take home open book exams (each with essay, multiple
answer, and multiple choice questions). See Instructions for
Taking the Tests under Course Documents).
- Weekly Discussion Board Activity (Rate an Information Source).

- Book Report. (See Book Report under Course Documents).
- The class NEVER meets at any one time on Blackboard. All
students move at their own pace, and enter Blackboard whenever
they wish. However, students must finish assignments by the due
dates.

Grading: All grades are determined by the take home exams,
Book Report, and Discussion Board Activity (Rate an Information
Source). Fifty percent of your grade is based on writing which
reflects critical thinking, scholarship, and the ability to express
yourself in a grammatically correct and coherent fashion.
