Welcome to the Department of Communication and Theatre

Mansfield University's Department of Communication and Theatre offers three degree programs: Organizational Communication, Mass Communication (with an emphasis in Broadcasting, Journalism, and/or Public Relations), and a multi-disciplinary major in Graphic Design. We offer two minors: Organizational Communication and Theatre.

One of the advantages in obtaining a Communication degree from Mansfield University is the ability for you to combine two separate areas of study and still graduate in four years. So, if you are attracted to the study of broadcasting and journalism, you can complete the Journalism emphasis and Broadcasting emphasis.

The Department of Communication & Theatre is proud of the way we educate students and get them ready for an exciting career. Our small classes and personalized advising allows us to focus on the needs of each individual student. If you want to be a name and not a number, MU is the place for you. We truly believe in educating through involvement and learning through experience.

Josh Kramer, MUTV president, and Kaela Mast, WNTE-FM general manager, attended the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB) May 2009 convention in Hershey thanks to funding through a PAB higher education grant awarded to the Communications and Theatre Department.

Educating Through Involvement

The Department of Communication & Theatre supports student involvement as a vital part of the college experience. There are several department organizations and each one will get you involved in the dymanic field of communication: MUTV and WNTE Radio will expose you to all aspects of live broadcast. Join the PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) to learn more about Public Relations. And write for The Flashlight student newspaper to open your eyes to the world of print journalism. Whatever your interest, each organization will get you involved in the campus and local community. Best of all, you’ll have fun while doing it.

Learning Through Experience
The Department of Communication & Theatre boasts an outstanding internship program. Students can spend an entire semester working in a professional environment as far away as California, Florida, and New York City or as close as their hometown. Through this opportunity, students gain valuable experience in their chosen profession while earning academic credit.
