Minors in Foreign Languages and Related Areas

A Minor in a Foreign Language is a decided asset on one's record when job hunting. Many employers will hire one candidate over another given a suficient level of foreign language proficiency. A minor is fairly easy to complete in four years of coursework. In fact, one might want to consider a double major in a foreign language.

15 semester hours, to include FR 2201, FR 2202 and an additional 9 SH in 3000-level French courses (that is, three advanced-level courses beyond 2202). 15 semester hours, to include GER 2201, GER 2202 and an additional 9 SH in 3000-level German courses (that is, three advanced-level courses beyond 2202). Because the 2202 level or above is required for participation in MU's German exchange in Jena, participants in this program will all return from Germany with a completed German minor with additional credits toward the German major.

Pre-2005:
15 semester hours, to include SPA 2201, SPA 2202 and an additional 9 SH in 3000-level Spanish courses (that is, three advanced-level courses beyond 2202).

Beginning Fall 2005:
18 semester hours, to include SPA 2201, SPA 2202, SPA 2225 Spanish Grammar Review, and an additional 9 SH in 3000-level Spanish courses (that is, three advanced-level courses beyond 2202 plus the required grammar review course).

18 SH, to include two core courses (6 SH) selected from: 1. PSC 312 and 2. HST 376 or SPA 3307. In addition, 4 elective courses (12 SH) with 4 different course prefixes are to be selected from: ANH 101, 301 or 350; ARH 323 or 324; BUS 333, 403, 404 or 422; ECO 205 or 333; ENG 220, 305 or 401; HST 232, 375, 415 or 470; MU 301; PSC 212,412 or 415; SOC 200W; SPA 3340, 3341 or 400; SPE 330; WS 355.
