Curriculum Action Notice

This is a bulletin from the Academic Affairs Committee concerning proposed curriculum actions. Within the next 10 days, please forward any comments or concerns to the AAC Chair, Helen Biblehimer, Elliott Hall 203, x4521, hbiblehi@mnsfld.edu.

Procedure for Applying for Information Literacy or Global Awareness Status for a Course

For an Existing Course:

1. The Department Chair will submit a completed Information Literacy ("I") and/or Global Awareness ("G") checklist to the designated person(s) (see Senate Web Page) from the IG subcommittee.
2. The IG committee will, based upon the checklist, decide if the course qualifies for the "I" or "G" status.
3. The decision of the IG committee will be conveyed to the chair of the department submitting the checklist. If the course is approved this approved status will be conveyed to the Provost office who will take the necessary steps to have the designation permanently attached to that course.
4. Should a course not be given the requested status, an appeal to AAC can be made by submitting a Course Change Proposal form along with the I and/or G checklist. The usual path for curricular actions for a course change will be followed in the appeal process.

For a New Course:

1. If a new course wishes to apply for "I" or "G" status, the appropriate checklist will be submitted along with the "New Course Proposal Form" to the chair of the AAC.
2. The AAC chair will send the checklist to the IG subcommittee.
3. Action on the course by AAC will not take place until the IG subcommittee has decided on the "I" and/or "G" status. The recommendation of the I G subcommittee will be attached to the New Course Proposal. The New Course Proposal form will then follow the normal curricular path, AAC to Senate to President, for approval.
