Program description for catalog:
The Studio Art majors acquire hands-on experiences in several media,
including concentrations in computer graphics, drawing, painting,
printmaking, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, fibers and crafts. These
courses are balanced with academic courses in art, art history, business
and general liberal arts courses. Students have opportunities and
are encouraged to display their art on and off campus. Potential occupations
range from being a freelance artist to working for a design firm.
Large and small companies and government agencies have artist designers
on their staffs. The growing field of video uses artists and there
are many careers in medical, scientific and other types of technical
illustration. By choosing courses in computers, business, or the sciences,
students can further multiply their career options. A 2.0 or above
must be earned by Art Majors in ART 2240 and ART 2244 foundation courses
before admittance to any other studio course. This rule does not apply
to non-art majors.
Impact on other programs (if any):
Business Department
The addition of Business courses within the Studio Art curriculum
is an idea that is long overdue. Once again the demand placed on the
Business Department will average 1-5 additional students in either
BUS 1130 (Introduction to Business Management), BUS 2260 (Small Business
Management), or BUS 3330 (Marketing) as Related Professional Course
options should result in little to no impact on the Business Department.
The Business Department supports our endeavors and validates our attempt
to better prepare our students.
#2 Action: Course Change Request: ART 4403 Art Seminar
Purpose and nature of change: Change credit hours of Art Seminar
to reflect the new Electronic Portfolio requirement and change course

ar educators. In addition, students enrolled in Art Seminar will compile,
focus, reflect, and organize their educational experience at Mansfield
University into an electronic vita and professional portfolio. This
