department of Biology has requested the following curricular actions:
#1 Action: Program Change: B.S. Biology
Rationale for Change:
- To conform to the S.S.H.E. initiative to make all baccalaureate
degrees have a maximum of 120 credits.
- Research is the essence of science. The new requirement of
independent study will also bring the B.S. degree in alignment
with the other biology degrees
- Some students enter the university able to begin their math
at the calculus level. This explains the reason to remove MA 165
as a requirement.
List all changes:
- To change the credits required for the Biology B.S. from 128 to
120.
- Move BI 110 Zoology to the General Education Elective block
- Require 1 credit of BI 497 Independent Study
- Remove MA 165 from the list of required courses
#2 Action: Program Change: B.S. Biology Fisheries
Rationale for change:
Comply with mandate to reduce credits required for graduation to 120
List all changes:
- Delete MA 125 from group 3
- Delete BI 130 and CHM 112 from group 4
- Add PHY 1191 to group 4
- Delete PHL 316 and MA 165 from group 6
- Add BI 130, CHM 1112 and PHY 1192 to group 6
- Reduce credits for BI 4450 (Internship) from 6 to 4
#3 Action: Program Change: B.S. Biology CMT
Rationale for change:
To set the CMT program to 120 cr. from 128 cr.
To comply with the request from the State/Administration.
List all changes:
- Independent Study (BI 4497) is changed from 2 cr. to 1 cr. in
the new proposal.
- Zoology (BI 110) is moved from the right side of the ER
#4 Action: Program Change: B.S. Biology MET
Rationale for change:
To comply with the S.S.H.E. mandate that all degree programs require
no more than 120 credits for graduation.
List all changes:
The reduction in credits involves moving eight credits of major courses
to General Education electives.
Move BI 1110 (Zoology, 4 credits) to General Education electives
Move PHY 1191 (Physics I , 4 credits) to General Education electives
#5 Action: Program Change: B.S. Biology EBI
Rationale for change: To comply with the S.S.H.E. mandate
that all degree programs require no more than 120 credits for graduation.
List all changes:
The reduction in credits (128 to 120) involves removing one credit
from major and moving seven credits of major courses to General Education
electives.
- Drop BI 4498 as a program requirement
- Move PHY 1191 to General Education electives
- Move GEG 2222 to Group 5 (Social Sciences)
- Move BI 1130 to General Education electives
- Remove MA 1165 from the General Education requirements
