Education has requested the following curricular action:
New Course Request: Ed 5505 Educational Psychology
Purpose and Nature of Course:
The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with basic knowledge
concerning the psychological principles and to help students gain
an understanding and insight into the application of selected principles
of learning. Students will be introduced to developmental theory,
individual differences, various learning theories and their applications.
Various teaching models and their considerations will be addressed.
In addition, the motivation and its influence on teaching and learning
will also be emphasized. This course will help pre-service and in-service
teachers understand their students and enhance their teaching in their
classrooms.
This course was offered as an experimental course in summer 2003.
It was designed for students who are seeking both teaching certification
and master‚s degree. In addition to meeting the requirement
of teaching certification, students also earn graduate credits towards
their master‚s degree. Since most of the graduate students are
in-service teachers, the on-line format of the course provide flexible
schedule for student learning. This course will be offered on-line
using Blackboard course management tool.
Course Description for Catalog:
Educational Psychology focuses upon the application of learning theory
principles in educational settings. This course emphasizes the educational
implications and applications of research on child development, cognitive
science, learning, and teaching. Students will learn how information
and ideas drawn from research in educational psychology can be applied
to solve the everyday problems of teaching.
