Course Deletion: NUR 1170 Introduction to Health Sciences
Rationale for deletion: New 2 credit course (NUR 1100) will
take the place of NUR 1170 and UNV 1100.
# 2 Action:
New Course: NUR 1100 Foundations for Professional Nursing
Purpose and Nature of Course: This course introduces first-year
students to the university community and the health profession of
nursing. The course has two separate goals: providing a basis for
academic and professional success, and involving students in the world
around them.

Course Description for Catalog:
This course introduces first-year students to the university
community and the health profession of nursing. The course has two
separate goals: providing a basis for academic and professional success,
and involving students in the world around them. Students will become
involved in the MU community, develop an awareness of diversity issues,
examine what it means to be a college student, explore what it means
to be a professional, and develop strategies for success. Discussion
of the importance of a strong liberal arts foundation as the basis
of professional study is an integral part of the course. Professional
concepts such as communication skills, basic medical language, legal,
ethical, and professional issues are introduced.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the course, you should be able to:
- Articulate the value of a liberal arts education.
- Set personal and academic goals for the university experience.
- Actively participate in the university learning community.
- Value diversity and living in a diverse learning community.
- Demonstrate ability to access university academic and student
life support services.

and suffixes

Much of the material in UNV 1100 is redundant to what is taught
in NUR 1170
List all changes:
- Delete UNV 1100 from General Education core requirements for Nursing
majors - 1 credit
- Delete NUR 1170 for nursing majors – 1 credit
- Add NUR 1100 for nursing majors – 2 credits
