The Department of Education and Special Education has requested the following curricular action:

New Course: ELE/ED 5570 Endless Mountain Summer Writing Institute

Purpose and Nature of Course:
To improve student writing by establishing an expanding professional community of teacher leaders that will work collaboratively to extend the use of writing in all of the disciplines.

Credit(s) ___6_ Graduate

Course Description for Catalog:
An affiliate of the National Writing Project (which is a sponsor in this grant-funded program) that offers educators in all disciplines and curricular areas the opportunity to come together as a diverse professional community of both teachers and writers. Workshops will include professional readings that focus on writing as a way of learning, daily writing/response sessions, and teacher demonstrations. Participation in the projects’ post-institute professional development program is required.

20. Describe any student enrollment restrictions:
This institute is invitational. As part of the application process, participants must submit for approval a writing sample and an individualized plan that specifies their personal and professional writing and teaching goals. Applicants must successfully complete an interview. A maximum of 25 students will be invited.
