Course change request – PHL 3380 Health Care Ethics Purpose and nature of change: __(1) change catalogue description to reflect actual course content and (2) prerequisite to reflect appropriate level of difficulty Revised catalog copy: An examination of the arguments designed to provide solutions to moral problems commonly faced by health care professionals. Topic may include: lies to the sick and dying; end of life care and decision-making; privacy and confidentiality; paternalism; resource allocation; moral theory. Prerequisite: minimum of 45 credits earned or permission of instructor. Course change request – PHL 3470 Theories of Mind and Knowledge Purpose and nature of change: __(1) change catalogue description to reflect actual course content and (2) prerequisite to reflect appropriate level of difficulty; Revised catalog copy: A study of some of the philosophical theories involved in understanding the nature of the human mind and what constitutes knowledge. Some of the topics or concepts which may be examined are behaviorism, identify theory, folk psychology, functionalism, consciousness, intentionality, belief, justification, skepticism, and artificial intelligence. Attention will be paid to recent developments in neuroscience and the social sciences, especially psychology. Prerequisite: PHL 2201 or PHL 2202, and 45 credits earned; or, permission of instructor. Course change request – PHL 4423 Twentieth Century Philosophy Purpose and nature of change: __(1) change catalogue description to reflect actual course content and (2) prerequisite to reflect appropriate level of difficulty; Revised catalog copy: Analysis of the defining features of major philosophical movements in the twentieth century. The movements which may be examined include linguistic analysis, logical positivism, pragmatism, philosophy of mind, postmodernism, and feminism. Prerequisite: PHL 2201 or PHL 2202, and 45 credits earned; or, permission of instructor. Course change request – PHL 4490 Seminar Purpose and nature of change: __(1) change catalogue description to reflect actual course content and (2) prerequisite to reflect appropriate level of difficulty; Revised catalog copy: An intense, supervised investigation of a specialized problem in philosophy or into the writings of a particular philosopher or philosophical movement. Prerequisite: PHL 2201 or PHL 2202, and either 45 credits earned or permission of instructor. |
