Curricular Action Notice: Program Change
Department: Social Work, Anthropology, Sociology
Rationale for change:
Upon advice from colleagues, the
Soc/Anth faculty would like to reduce the number of credits students
need to take within the program to make the major more attractive
for potential majors and to facilitate dual majors. After review
of the current content of the material for PHL 3230 Formal Logic,
a required course in the Soc/Anth major, the Soc/Anth program faculty
feels that the remake of PHL 2230 is not highly in line with the
program’s goals and objectives to warrant it being a required
course.
List all changes:
Drop PHL 3230 Formal Logic from the list of major requirements.
Program Description for Catalog (if changed):
Drop PHL 2320 from program requirements; adjust 48 total semester
hour credits
Impact on other programs:
PHL will lose 3-4 Soc/Anth majors
from the PHL 3230 course each time it is offered. Appropriate majors
will be advised to take as an elective PHL 2200 Critical Thinking
or other philosophy courses with a strong social component such
as PHL 2202 Contemporary Moral Problems or PHL 3310 Social and Political
Philosophy.
