Add SPE 1001 Foundations of Special Education (pre-gate) – 3 credits SPE 2276 Instruction for English Language Learners (pre-gate) – 3 credits SPE 3291 High Incidence Disabilities – 3 credits ARE 3291L High Incidence Disabilities Lab – 0 credits SPE 3352 Assessment and Evidence Based Behavior Supports for Inclusion– 3 credits Program Description for Catalog (if changed): The Art Department offers three baccalaureate degrees: B.S.E. in Art Education, B.A. in Art History, and B.S. in Graphic Design. The art education program guides prospective teachers to meet general education requirements, to develop skills in three studio clusters with a concentration in one area, and to provide a rich foundation in studio art production skills, art history, aesthetics, theory, and practice of art education. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the graduate is qualified to teach art in the elementary and secondary schools (K-12). Graduating students must successfully complete the Praxis II examination both in general studies and their area of specialization to be certified to teach in Pennsylvania. Incoming freshman and transfer students must successfully complete an interview and portfolio review conducted by art faculty. Portfolios must be submitted under the Art Department guidelines (see Art Dept. web page). Deadlines are: Fall admittance prior to April 30 th ; Spring admittance prior to November 15 th . Art Education majors are required to meet a 3.0 grade average at the time they are admitted to the professional education program (after 48 semester hours), at the time of student teaching, and at graduation. A negative TB tine test, Act 34 Pennsylvania Police, Act 151 Child Abuse, and Pennsylvania FBI clearances must be filed and current after 48 credits and again before student teaching. In keeping with the Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements, all students are required to take: 6 credits of math; 3 credits of English composition; 3 credits of English literature; and pass the Praxis I exam. All studio and professional courses must be completed before student teaching. |
