The primary purpose of this course is to explore the history of the American Revolution from the end of the French & Indian War in 1763 through the ratification of the United States Constitution in 1788. Particular attention will be paid to the social, economic, and political aspects of the conflict.

The founding and development of Pennsylvania, emphasizing the social, political, and economic characteristics of the Commonwealth and the diversity of its people. This course will count as a capstone course for the History major.

Prerequisites: (Courses which MUST be completed prior to taking this course) _None

List all programs that require this course. Provide support from affected departments. History majors are required to complete either this course or HST 4496 (Senior Seminar). BSE SSH majors are required to complete HST 4401. These courses will be the capstone experience for the major, and History majors will be required to write 20-25 page research papers as part of the course requirements.

List all programs that require this course. Provide support from affected departments. History majors are required to complete either this course or HST 4401 (History of Pennsylvania). BSE SSH majors are required to complete HST 4401. These courses will be the capstone experience for the major, and History majors will be required to write a major original research paper using primary sources and incorporating historiography as part of the course requirements.
