deletes 5 existing courses) 1.

for program: 2. Program Description for
Catalog: The Minor offers students with a passion for Musical Theatre to gain
valuable basic and practical knowledge in that field. Through classroom
study as well as participation in Musicals produced by the Departments of
Communication & Theatre and of Music, students gain solid foundations
valuable to various
fields of
study.
3. Program Objectives: ·
Prepare
future teachers to organize and produce musical theatre performances at the
middle and high school levels. ·
Provide
a basic and practical study of musical theatre which will enable anyone with a
passion for it to pursue it while realizing their particular major course of
study. NEW COURSES / THEATRE MINOR: THT 2220 – PRINCIPLES AND TECHNIQUES OF STAGECRAFT &
LIGHTING (3)
The practical study of methods and
techniques in two of the most visual components of
the musical
theatre stage. A “hands-on”, practical experience in:
stagecraft, scenic
construction as well as lighting the finished set, with equal emphasis
on
each. Course is offered in conjunction with Music & Theatre
Department’s
main stage musicals or other
productions.

Course concentrates on the principles and
elements of design as well as their application

interrelationship across the basic disciplines of Stage Scenery and Stage

practical study of methods unique to
producing the musical. Course covers all aspects of production
from play
selection to opening night, with particular emphasis on
technical
production, backstage management, and staging.

A study of American Musical Theatre, its
history and creative elements. Students will develop critical
awareness of the
differences between traditional and musical
theatre
by
becoming actively involved in reading, observing, and analyzing

2220: Principles and Techniques of Stagecraft and Lighting Purpose
and Nature of Course: Course will provide students with the basic skills
and knowledge necessary to meet the scenic and lighting demands of most basic
theatrical and musical theatre productions. Students will be able to use
these skills and knowledge as the planning and problem solving process to produce
their own designs in stage scenery and lighting. Students will also gain
the skills necessary to turn their designs as well as the designs of others
into finished theatrical production elements. Prefix:
