Provides a survey of scientific findings in the area of human sexuality and the information needed to help students make responsible decisions concerning their own sexuality and sexual behavior.

 

Provides a survey of scientific findings and contemporary perspectives in the area of human sexuality.  Covers cultural, psychological, emotional, physiological, and developmental aspects of human sexuality and the information needed to help students make responsible decisions concerning their own sexuality and sexual behavior.

Rationale for Wellness Designation

This course provides important information on one of the most fundamental aspects of human wellness. Integral to the course content and objectives is the goal of helping students in the course increase their understanding of human sexuality and to be able to make informed and responsible choices that will impact their wellness.

 

Course Objectives:

·         Recognize the sexual anatomy, physiology, and development of both genders.

·         Understand sexual behaviors and attitudes in a cultural context

·         Understand the differences between men and women in sexual response.

·         Gain knowledge of sexual disorders and sexually transmitted infections.

·         Understand birth control, pregnancy, and childbirth.

·         Be able to communicate about sex.

·         Understand gender identity and sexual orientation.

• Learn about sexual problems and sexual variants.
• Be knowledgeable about sexual victimization and the law.

 

Topical Outline:

·         Sexual anatomy, physiology, and development.

·         Sex and society.

·         Sexual behaviors and the differences between men and women in sexual response.

This problem-based learning course teaches students the importance of using their time and talents to the betterment of community health.  The quality of life is improved for an elder, a pre-school child, or a child with special needs by participating in making and discussing expressive art projects.  The course challenges misconceptions and fosters a healthy understanding and respect for diverse populations.
