COURSE DELETION: 4460: PRACTICAL LEADERSHIP AND
ADMINISTRATION IN MUSIC
Rationale for deletion: Compliance with NASM
standards.
MU 4460 is cross
listed at the graduate level with MU 5560. Currently
the number of graduate courses that are cross listed with
undergraduate courses is too high with respect to NASM
standards. The department seeks to delete the
undergraduate cross listing of this course (MU 4460) to
improve our compliance with this standard.
Course Title: PRACTICAL LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION IN
MUSIC
Last semester and year course was offered: Summer 2009

PROGRAM CHANGE: MUSIC (MINOR)
Rationale for change:
Reduce the number of credits required for the Minor in
Music.
Prior to the 120 hour curricular revision music minors
were able to complete the required 4 credits in their major
performance area in two terms of study (2 credits per term).
As result of the 120 hour changes first-year music students
now take applied instruction in their major performance area
at 1 credit per term, which means that a music minor would
now needs more than 2 semesters of study to complete the
requirement.
This reduction in credit hours reflects the departments
original intention with the minor requiring two semesters of
applied instruction in the major performance area.
This reduction would lower the total number of credits for
the Music Minor from 24 to 22 which is still well above the
required number of credits set forth by the university and
by NASM.
List
all changes:
Reduce credits hours in major performance area (MAP 22_ _)
from 4 credits to 2.

COURSE CHANGES: A WHOLE BUNCH OF WIND BRASS MUSIC
COURSES WITH THE SAME CO-REQUISITE CHANGE
Purpose and nature of
change: Add co-requisite to clarify department ensemble
participation policy.
As a component of
every music degree program at MU, students are required to
complete a specific number of ensemble credits (MEN
courses). It has been a long-standing department
policy, presented in the Music Department Handbook, that
student are required to enroll in one large ensemble
appropriate to their primary instrument or voice during each
term that they are enrolled in applied instruction (lessons
on their instrument or voice). This curricular action
does not add any additional requirements to any of the music
degree programs but serves to clarify expectations for
ensemble participation.

the co-requisite below to the following courses:]
