1.     COURSE CHANGE: RTH 1101: Fundamentals of Respiratory Care

Purpose and nature of change: 

•                 Update course description for RTH-1101 to more accurately reflect current course content.

•                  Inadequate preparation in chemistry has been associated with attrition in the respiratory therapy courses.  To improve the respiratory therapy students’ preparation for the RTH 1101 course, CHM-1101 with a grade of at least “C” will be added to the course prerequisites.

Course Description for Catalog (limit to four sentences):  An examination of respiratory system anatomy and physiology, medical gas physics, chest radiology, and the principles of electrocardiography.  A self-study module in medical terminology is included.

Prerequisites: (Courses which MUST be completed prior to taking this course):   BSC-1121, BSC-1122, MA-1128, and CHM-1101 with a grade of at least “C” in each, and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.3.

2.     COURSE CHANGE: RTH 1102: Fundamentals of Respiratory Care II

Purpose and nature of change: 

•                 Update course description for RTH-1102 to more accurately reflect current course content.

•                 Inadequate preparation in chemistry has been associated with attrition in the respiratory therapy courses.  To improve the respiratory therapy students’ preparation for the RTH 1102 course, CHM-1101 with a grade of at least “C” will be added to the course prerequisites.

Course Description for Catalog (limit to four sentences):  Classroom instruction and laboratory practice of fundamental respiratory care assessment and therapeutic procedures.  Topics include physical examination of the patient, bedside pulmonary function tests, medical gas therapy, aerosol therapy, airway pharmacology, lung expansion therapy, airway clearance therapy, airway management, and infection control.

Prerequisites: (Courses which MUST be completed prior to taking this course):   BSC-1121, BSC-1122, MA-1128, and CHM-1101 with a grade of at least “C” in each, and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.3.

3.     COURSE CHANGE: RTH 1112: Arterial Blood Gases

Purpose and nature of change: 

Current prerequisites listed for RTH 1112 are BSC 1121, CHM 1101, and RTH 1101.  Inadequate preparation in human anatomy & physiology, math, and chemistry has been associated with attrition in the respiratory therapy courses.  To improve the respiratory therapy students’ preparation for the RTH 1112 Arterial Blood Gas course, the prerequisites shall be changed to read:  BSC 1121, BSC 1122, MA 1128, and CHM 1101 with a grade of at least “C” in each and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.3.  Since RTH 1112 and RTH 1101 will be taken simultaneously under the new curriculum implemented in fall, 2009, RTH 1101 will be listed as a co-requisite for RTH 1112.

4.     COURSE CHANGE: COM 3303: Television/Radio Announcing

Purpose and nature of change:

To eliminate prerequisite COM 2203 Voice & Articulation for COM 3303  Television/Radio Announcing.  COM 2203 is no longer offered in the program.  All other descriptions remain the same.
