| A. | There is a Faculty Assembly tomorrow, April 30, at 3:30 in Allen Hall.

| B. | Loher distributed the Session XVI Schedule for Senate and Senate Exec meetings. Please note that Fall Convocation will be on Monday, August 30. If you have suggestions, see P. Travis by June 8.
|
|||||
| C. | Senate Exec will be meeting with Department Chairs on May 12.
|
|||||
| D. | President's response to the Senate actions of March 25: Most recommendations were approved except for the total degree credit requirements in Music programs. Three programs were reduced from 133 credits to 130.
|
|||||
| E. | Commencement will be Saturday, May 8 at 11:00.
|
|||||
| F. | President Halstead thanked P. Travis and V. Lapps for their help with the Inaugural Celebration.

| 1. | New signs were in place for Inauguration. One has been vandalized.
|
|||||
| 2. | Parking Garage: The bid date is May 8, with expected completion in September or October. Wilson St. and the Belknap lot will be closed, with Employee parking spaces moved to commuter lot W.
|
|||||
| 3. | Student Union: The bid date is May 18, with expected completion in February or March.
|
|||||
| 4. | Straughn: Work delayed due to a reallocation of funds to Cheyney.
|
|||||
| 5. | Elliott & Grant: Heating work scheduled for Summer 2000.
|
|||||
| 6. | Retan & Belknap: Retan will be renovated first, then Belknap. Work will begin in Summer or Fall of 2000 and run for a full year (Summer/Fall/Spring or Fall/Spring Summer).

| 7. | Memorial: Offices will be moved to Alumni and Memorial will undergo extensive renovations.
|
|||||
| 8. | South Hall: There will be a new entrance on the Mall in the middle of the building. Four offices will be eliminated, the Career Placement office will be moved, and classrooms will be moved. No date has been set.
|
|||||
| 9. | In answer to a previous question: Contractually, no fee can be assessed for parking in the new garage.
|
|||||
| 10. | Budget: Governor has proposed 2 1/2%, we're hoping for 4% from Legislature.
|
|||||
| Question: A. Longoria asked if there will be a directional sign on Straughn Drive for Straughn. Answer: Since Straughn will eventually be closed, that may be affecting present sign placement. Halstead suggested contacting the VP for Finance with questions about signs.

| 1. | B. Barden will be representing Admissions on the newly restructured committee.

| 2. | The issue of low attendance at University events will be addressed in the Fall.
|
|||||
| 3. | The Wellness Committee will participate in Earth Day and will have a Wellness Fair in the Fall.

| 1. | Thanked the Program Committee for their work on the Computing Across the Curriculum conference.

| 2. | Cheyney has out-registered Mansfield 3-1 for this conference. All are encouraged to attend. Monday is the last day to register.

| 1. | A new student evaluation process will begin in the Fall; information will be available over the Summer.

| 2. | Volgograd: B. Koloski will be going with a group of students. If anyone is interested for Fall 2000, please contact J. Moore.

| 3. | A new director for the Women's Studies Program is needed.
|
|||||
| 4. | Thanks to T. Murphy and to all who participated in the Campus Conversations.
|
|||||
| 5. | Provost said we "can't overstate the importance" of the presence of faculty at commencement.

| Election Concerns
|
||||||
| 1. | Exec is trying to develop written guidelines for the transition to the new constitution.
|
|||||
| 2. | There are issues with people resigning from committees after the elections. Reminder: Running for Professional Committee is a three-year commitment, and resigning early causes problems.
|
|||||
| 3. | S. Brown will pass on elections documentation to the new committee.

| A. | Textbook costs: | |||||
| C. D'Ortona brought up the issue of rising textbook costs and suggested that we should try to be sensitive to this issue when choosing books. W. Yacovissi suggested checking prices, for comparison purposes, at such places as Amazon.com. M. Chester pointed out that the campus bookstore will tell you prices if you ask. R. Timko said that publishing groups and organizations like copyright.com that will assemble custom books can actually reduce costs. J. Moore asked if this kind of information should be communicated to all faculty. C. D'Ortona agreed to put together an "ememo," timed shortly before textbook selection for Spring 2000.
