Motion # 2

AAC moves to approve the Course Change for ED 5592 The Teacher and Educational Leadership

Purpose and nature of change:
Create a culminating graduate level capstone course for elementary (M.Ed.) and secondary (M.S.Ed.) program students. The course would replace the current oral final exam requirement with an individual final project.

Discussion: Clarification—this is an existing course that is being changed. Motion carried.

Motion # 3

AAC moves to approve the New Online Course ED 5535 Foundations of Education

Purpose and Nature of Course:
Integrate the social, historical, and philosophical foundations into one on-line course as is the case in the undergraduate course ED 1102 Introduction to Education to accommodate the increasing population of non-education background students entering education graduate programs.

Discussion: Two levels of paperwork if a course is approved as face-to-face. Passing this as an on-line course saves paperwork. This is a core course in the M.A. or M.S. program for those who have no education background. It is an optional core course. Motion carried.

Motion # 8

AAC moves to approve the New Program: M.Ed. - new concentration: Children’s Literature

Rationale for program:
To offer a new concentration for students pursuing the
M.Ed. or the M.S. Ed. degree in elementary or secondary education
This concentration in children’s literature will provide graduate students the opportunity to survey children’s literature for children from birth to young adulthood.

Discussion: Students in the library program sometimes take these. Will these courses replace present courses? No, these are in addition. Motion carried.
