Changes in Math: in the past all BSE majors have been required to take history/philosophy of Math; this is breaking into 2 courses. The same is happening with algebra. Students can take one or the other; they need full year of algebra for graduate school.

Provost (D. Seigart)

Fall freeze data for fall 2005 student headcount was 3390; fall 2006 is 3360, which is a decrease of .9%

Student Full-time equivalent (FTE) undergrad total enrollment is 2739.9, which is 1.6% less than the fall 2005 enrollment of 2783.2. One reason for the decrease is a slightly smaller first-year entering class.

First to second year persistence rate for first-year students in 2004 was 64.7%, and in 2005 it was 73.1%. This is a substantial improvement.

The Provost believes the persistence improvement is due to multiple factors (learning clusters, First-Year Experience Program, Learning Forum and so fourth).

Performance funding data information is available at the PASSHE website. MU received $860,060. We would have like to have done better, but difficult to meet some criteria. Improved persistence rate for the current fall will not be recognized by the System until a year from now.

This is a standard area of research in the communication field, and virtually all universities include this course in their communication curriculum. Adding this course will give students in our field as well as in any other to have an elective that will help them to become better communicators in a globally diverse world.
