Course Title: Business Practicum
Course Description for Catalog: Supervised and evaluated participation
in the regular activities of a business organization, government agency
or not-for-profit organization. In consultation with the supervising
faculty member, the student is expected to document work experience
and have positive performance evaluation from immediate supervisor.
The course may be taken for 1 through 5 credits. All practicum credits
are considered free electives.
Prerequisites: 60 credits earned.
Discussion: Both are taken as free electives – does
not count toward their program requirements.
B. Timko – only change is in credit hours. Renner added that an
internship is a large scale immersion experience, but practicum is smaller
scale, meant for sophomore or junior level. Number of credits is different.
Keller mentioned that students can be approved for up to 15 credits,
but only 12 can count toward graduation.
Both APPROVED

there is not listed as a course!
Motion: to send back to department for clarification (Thorne/Syrett).
Passed.

Keeth – the course description doesn’t make sense, because
what is a topic of interest to mass media? Renner – wondered about
offering a junior-level course without prerequisites. Brown - doesn’t
require any background. Matt Syrett – maybe someone should be
here to answer questions.
Motion: to send back (Syrett/Keeth). Passed.

7. Program Change to the Master of Arts in Music. The music
department proposes the creation of an additional emphases under the
Master of Arts degree in Music. Currently, the department offers the
MA with emphases in music education, instrumental or choral conducting.
The proposal is to add an emphasis in collaborative piano and is a direct
extension of our change to the MA in music from the former MM in Music
Education. The program will utilize the same core courses as the other
concentrations under the degree. No new resources are required and only
one new course is necessary for the degree. It is expected that this
emphasis will draw additional students to the MA in Music degree and
expand the departments student enrollment at the masters level.
APPROVED
MOTION:
8. New Course Proposal MAP 6616 Applied Collaborative Piano would
be designated as the applied lessons (one to one instruction)for the
students in the collaborative piano track. This distinction is made
for accrediting purposes to demonstrate that the issues of collaborative
piano work are being addressed. Issues of collaborative piano would
be addressed in this setting and would often include not only the piano
student in the instructional setting, but other musicians with whom
the pianist is accompanying and/or performing. (Students in this emphasis
would not take MAP 6610 applied piano). The department has room and
need of piano students, so there is no impact to load.
Discussion: This is new course to contribute to program (#7)
above.
Question: is description in the agenda the catalog description? No.
