Academic Affairs (P. Junius)

Revisit actions not approved by Dr. Loeschke. Changes made:

Course change: COM 3303, Television and Radio Announcing
Department: Communication and Theatre
Purpose and nature of change: Elimination of two prerequisites for COM 3303 (Delete COM 3301 and COM 3270 as prerequisites)

•COM motion (pre-requisites) should clarify that COM 2201 & 2203 are still pre-reqs.
New course: COM 3309, Special Topics in Mass Media

•New course description: This changing topic course will introduce students to various aspects of Mass Communication study of interest to the profession.

These motions do not necessarily have to go back to AAC. The following are proposed changes to previous wording … “35 credits including current enrollment”.

Course change: MKT 3330… “must have completed 25 credits.
Course change: TRT 3300…”must have completed 25 credits.
Course change: TRT 3350…”must have completed 25 credits.
Course change: TRT 4430…”must have completed 25 credits.

Discussion: Wouldn’t this still allow a freshman to take the course, when this course is designed for students at or near the junior level? This pre-req is actually stricter than what was previously there (35 credits including current enrollment).
Advisors should be able to help guide a student who is not ready away from this course.
PASSED

The following did not have course descriptions. Proposed course descriptions are:

Course change: MKT 4421: course description:
This course deals with the elements and management of marketing channels and distribution. It investigates behavior and functional relationships, with and between channel members, including wholesaling, retailing, and franchise systems. The course also examines the distribution policies, legal constraints, conflict issues, communications, power, pricing and performance evaluations of channel members.

Course change: MKT 4423: course description: In the business market, the customers are organizations (businesses, governments, and institutions) and these customers represent a huge market opportunity. This course will introduce students to business-to-business marketing by identifying the distinctive characteristics of the business market, exploring the way in which organizations make buying decisions, and isolating the requirements for marketing strategy success.

All in favor of both course descriptions:
