Approved

  II.         Announcements:

Commencement date and time: speaker will be Representative Matt Baker

APSUF reception 5-7 pm

Assembly is required to meet once each semester. Acts by submitted recommendations through Senate.

Reminder: everyone is encouraged to participate in strategic planning questionnaire electronically. There are 5 questions. Student participation is outdistancing faculty participation 3 to 1.

Strategic Planning Committee: reviewing MU Vision Statement.

Current MU Mission Statement: (from website)

Mansfield University is dedicated to providing an environment that promotes academic and personal growth as well as intellectual, ethical, and aesthetic values. The University serves the region, state, national and international communities by developing human and material resources. The University is committed to stimulating continuous pursuit of knowledge and understanding by students, staff, and faculty. To accomplish this mission, Mansfield University pledges:

  • To provide a liberal education for all its students.
  • To prepare students for full and purposeful lives through undergraduate and graduate instruction in liberal arts and professional programs.
  • To plan, develop, implement, and measure its efforts in providing optimum learning opportunities for students of a variety of ages, backgrounds, and needs.
  • To promote affirmative action and equal opportunity.
  • To maintain a faculty dedicated to teaching and scholarship.
  • To cooperate with other educational institutions for the achievement of mutual goals.
  • To provide educational and cultural programs to the general community.
  • To offer expertise in public service activities.

The planning process is important because during University Days there will be opportunity for different groups to meet for a SWAK analysis. In January the group will draft a document and present to the University community in March.

Discussion: the questions on the questionnaire are difficult to answer. The focus groups generated conversation, but no there was no tally of information, no organization of output.

III.         New Business: Madigan: scanner in memorial hall  - is it available for faculty use for scanning tests, etc? It seems to be making mistakes. There is concern about faulty scanning of faculty evaluations.

Question: IT has been made aware, but not specifically about the faculty evaluations (more about student test malfunctions). We need to look more closely into this potentially big problem.

Suggestion: bring up to IT in senate tomorrow.

DM: by end of next semester faculty evaluations will take place online.

Motion (Madigan/Labuski-Brown): to investigate the computer malfunction and bring to IT.

 IV.         Adjournment: 4:25 (Iseri)

  Assembly minutes respectfully submitted,
Christine Moulton, Senate Secretary
