2009 (Evans/McEvoy) APPROVED IV.

obligations. V.
Committee / Other Reports A.
Executive Committee – proposed amendment to
constitution. Add: No two faculty
members of any of the Professional Committees may be on the same academic
discipline (as defined in this Appendix). Discussion: In CBA, under Tenure committee it states tenure is
required, but does not explicitly say tenure is required for Promotions and
Sabbatical. SD: Hope is that next year we will have a
constitutional review committee. PASSED B.
Academic Affairs (Bosworth) PSY 2212: Human Sexuality
- recommended course to be included in the Wellness Block. GE Courses in wellness give students opportunities
to develop proactive approaches to healthy lifestyles. Accordingly, each
wellness course provides opportunities for students to engage in at least three
of the following goals: ·
Demonstrate their understanding of the interconnectivity of the physical,
mental and psychological components of developing a positive lifestyle. ·
Demonstrate promotion of a holistic, lifelong focus on personal health. ·
Demonstrate the development of kinesthetic capabilities ·
Explore the interrelationship of personal exercise, nutrition, fitness and
health risks management skills ·
Identify and analyze personal lifestyles as they relate to current and future
personal wellness. ·
Recognize the importance of building a knowledge framework for analyzing and
organizing physical activity (e.g. knowledge of anatomy, physiology, strategy
of play, how to evaluate physiological effects. For course to be approved, it must meet 3 of the
above criteria. PASSED 1 Opposed Change to dismissal policy. Currently in CAN. To be
voted on next meeting. VJ: Line in question: students who are readmitted on probation have two semesters to acquire the
necessary QPA for continued matriculation. This is contingent upon earning a minimum 2.0
semester QPA for
the semester immediately following reinstatement, after the 1st
dismissal, or the first semester following probationary
readmission to the university. Students readmitted and on probabtion are now given
the opportunity of 2 semesters to meet
the QPA, a 2.0 the semester immediately following readmittance. FYI, also in CAN, WIG & GE revised forms – GE has
a new form for GE status. WIG checklist has been revised to be more explicit
(already in catalogue). AM: once adopted WIG course syllabi will be
assessed to see which courses meet the requirements. If not, faculty may be
asked to change syllabus or status will be removed. 3 credit UNV experimental course (2255) will be
offered in fall in Social Science, Math, English – to help retention, boost
interest…They are for specifically selected incoming freshmen. They will not
count toward a SS, Math or English major. They will not be clustered. It will not replace the
1 credit UNV course already required. C.

Provost (Keller) Delighted to be of service again. Excited about
Strategic Plan, vision and goals. We should be able to change the institution tangibly
for the better. Grateful to Dean Team for all the excellent work
they’ve done. We will need a FTE to cover what this group has done so far. Acknowledgement
that there is a need for administrative help. 3 searches: Director of Inst Research &
Assessment Data (we will probably lose C. Renner), Dean of Arts & Sciences, and Dean of Education
& Graduate Professional Studies. Strategic budget: has many great ideas/requests, more than we have budget for, but
excited about the great ideas submitted. Already overspent personnel budget… this is a
challenge we currently face. We are under resourced, not overstaffed. This was
a particularly difficult year. Has invited all of Academic Affairs to join our
Strategic Plan. Wants to fund Ethics Ed for our staff and senior leaders. WE: forced furloughs? PK: we haven’t had to do
anything, but may be problematic in next couple years with unions. Have talked
about flexible schedules/4 day weeks, just to plan for the worst… PS: What portion of budget will $400 G come out of?
PK: will talk to M Reid. We may have reserves available, not sure… WE: Instruction Equip? PK: there are strategic
funds that will be available, but it won’t be enough to cover all that is
needed. All of the other schools in the system are
suffering right now, not just us. VI.
Remarks for the Good of the Order: SD: Student
Scholarship presentations coming up in 2 weeks. Please come by to see… AW: eArts workshop on Monday – electronic arts,
presentations, concert at night. VII.
Adjournment: 4:47 (Evans/tutti) Minutes respectfully submitted, Christine Moulton, Senate Secretary |
