B.S. in Computer and Information Science, Computer Science Concentration
For specific course and program requirements, please consult the current undergraduate catalog.
The Bachelor of Science Program in Computer Science is designed to explore computer organization and architecture. Students will apply the principles and practices of software development, including troubleshooting, problem solving and analysis, software design, and development using current industry-standard programming languages and tools.
Completion of the Computer Science Program prepares to solve both simple and complex computing problems. Students will gain an understanding of complex programming languages, data structures, and algorithms.
This program provides students with a thorough awareness and comprehension of the key principles of computing and their applications.
B.S. in Computer and Information Science, Information Systems Concentration
For specific course and program requirements, please consult the current undergraduate catalog.
The Information Systems Program is designed to focus on the system and business aspects of computing. This program pairs especially well with a dual major in Business Administration.
Completion of the Information Systems Program prepares students to address the need for information and decision support. Students will develop a familiarity with business and accounting principles, as well as programming languages, data structures, security issues, and networking. Many Information System graduates go on to pursue careers in forensics, networking, design, and database management.
This program provides students with an understanding of the technology necessary to improve an organization's competitive edge. Students will also develop a knowledge of ethical issues and responsibilities emerging from computing.
Student Organizations and Opportunities
There are so many ways you can get involved. Start by joining the Computer Science Club. Join one of the student programming teams and prepare to compete at the PACISE conference. Work with a professor on a research project, and present your findings at the PACISE, CCSCE, or CCSCNE conference. Volunteer your help and computer programming expertise to a not-for-profit or student organization.
Contests and Tutorials
Many of our students compete in a variety of Computer Science oriented contests. Recently we took second place in the PACISE Robotics Competion, and in a previous year we took second place in the PACISE Programming Competition. We are usually in the top schools featured on the yearly IBM Master the Mainframe Contest t-shirts and have been finalists in the yearly State Farm Coding Competition. Recently, we started participating in a Networking and Security contest. These contests are a great way to gain new skills and form professional networks.
Careers in Computer Science
Many of our graduates have found successful careers in the following areas:
- Security Analyst

While some of Mansfield University's professional degree programs are designed to prepare students to meet Pennsylvania's licensure or certification requirements, these programs are not necessarily compatible with licensure or certification requirements in other states. Students who plan to enroll in Mansfield's degree programs with the intent to pursue licensure or certification in states other than Pennsylvania must be aware of the professional licensure requirements in those states. Current students who are planning to undertake field experiences outside of Pennsylvania should also be aware the requirements of other states. Consistent with federal regulations, Mansfield is making a good faith effort to determine if our academic programs leading to licensure or certification meet the requirements of licensing boards in other states. Doing so requires contacting out-of-state licensing boards and having those boards review Mansfield's program curricula. As information from the out-of-state licensure boards is received, it will be posted on the University Licensure and Certification page.
