What are my responsibilities after signing the Federal Perkins Loan Promissory Note?

A Perkins loan is a serious obligation. It is extremely important that you understand your rights and responsibilities. You will be asked to sign electronically a Statement of Rights & Responsibilities form. By signing this statement, it means you understand your responsibilities and agree to honor the statement. To view the contents of this statement click here. This signed statement will become part of your Perkins loan file and will remain on file until your Perkins loan is paid in full.

What must I do if I have received a Perkins Loan and later decide not to return to Mansfield University?

As indicated in the Statement of Rights & Responsibilities, students must notify the Perkins Loan Officer when you drop below half-time or do not return. You will be sent "exit interview" materials which must be filled out, signed, dated and returned electronically via our third party billing agency, Educational Computer Systems, Inc. (ECSI) to the Perkins Loan Office.

Why must I go through the exit interview process?

This a federal regulation the university must fulfill. Critical information is provided at the exit interview. You will be given a document which identifies your monthly repayment amount and when your first payment is due. You will also be given information regarding deferments, cancellations and loan consolidations. Any student who leaves the university and does not complete this exit interview process, will have a hold placed on their transcripts, diploma and readmission to Mansfield University until the required information is on file.

If I have a Perkins "Hold" on my records, how can it be cleared?

A Perkins hold could be for one of two reasons or both. You may have neglected to complete the electronic exit interview materials after leaving Mansfield University. If you have misplaced this information, you must contact the Perkins Loan Office. After we receive the completed information, the hold will be cleared. The second reason may be because your Perkins loan is delinquent. To clear this hold you must pay the past due balance.

How can I find out how much I owe on my Perkins Loan at any point in time?

You can contact our third party billing agency, Educational Computer Systems, Inc. (ECSI) at (888) 549-3274 between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm EST Monday through Friday. You can also obtain this information through the web. Bring up ECSI's web site. Click on "login to my account". You will be asked to put in your school code, account number and password. This information is located in the lower left corner of the billing statement received from ECSI in the "DUE" block. You will also be asked for your assigned "pin". This code is also found in the same section of your bill.
