The Bachelor of Science Program in Biology is designed to encourage research and discovery amongst pre-professional students. This program exposes students to multiple levels of biological organization through a wide variety of courses.
Completion of the Biology Program prepares students with a hands-on, experiential approach to learning. Students graduate with a strong, generalized foundation in the various disciplines of biological science. Many Biology Program graduates go on to pursue graduate school or careers in research, medicine, dentistry, or veterinary practice. Bachelor of Science in Biology, Cellular and Molecular Concentration

The Cellular and Molecular Biology Program is designed to educate students in contemporary Biology emphasizing molecular interactions, cell development and functions. This program has a strong emphasis on chemistry. Students learn to manipulate and use a variety of cell and molecular techniques important in present day research.
Completion of the Cell and Molecular Biology Program prepares students with a specialized education in cellular structure and function and the molecular aspects of Biology. Many Cell and Molecular Biology Program graduates go on to pursue graduate school or careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medicine, and environmental science.

The Environmental Biology Program is designed to train aspiring scientists to examine environmental problems in an interdisciplinary way. This concentration is for students interested in the environmental issues which affect the world around them.
Completion of the Environmental Biology Program prepares students with field experience, as well as practical skills through related courses in the Arts and Sciences. Many Environmental Biology graduates go on to pursue employment with state and federal agencies, or in the private sector.

Bachelor of Science Biology, Fisheries Concentration
This program provides training, education, and placement of gifted students into amazing jobs where a passion for fish and the outdoors is channeled into a life-long career.
The Fisheries Program is designed to cover extensive coursework in three major areas of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences: Aquatic Conservation/Management, Aquatic Biology, and Aquaculture.
Completion of the Fisheries Program prepares graduates of this program for requirements for certification as Associate Fisheries Scientists by the American Fisheries Society. Students with certification are highly competitive in employment and graduate school opportunities. Fisheries graduates go on to pursue employment with state and federal agencies, or in the private sector.
Take your career to the next level and build on your experience in the M.S. Biology program! The M.S. Biology program offers opportunities for study at the supra-organismal, organismal, cellular, and molecular levels of biology. A broad array of disciplines is represented among the faculty, allowing considerable flexibility in the selection of independent research topics. Thesis research may be carried out on campus, or at an off-campus site.

Bachelor of Science in Biology, Medical Laboratory Sciences Concentration

The Medical Laboratory Sciences Program is designed to prepare students for a professional career in Clinical Laboratory Sciences and Biotechnology. This program is fully accredited by the National Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
Completion of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program prepares students to perform complex laboratory analyses that plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Students spend three years of academic study on campus and one year of clinical study at an approved hospital school of Medical Technology. Mansfield University has an affiliation with Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
This program provides certification through NAACLS, and a multitude of career opportunities. Many Medical Laboratory Sciences graduates go on to pursue careers in a wide variety of settings, including hospital, pharmaceutical, research, biotechnology, forensic, and veterinary laboratories.
Facilities
Grant Science Center houses the majority of science courses and laboratory components offered at Mansfield. This newly renovated building features state-of-the-art equipment, laboratories, and classrooms. These modern facilities are used by students and faculty in a variety of expiriments and research projects. The Grant Science Center also features a greenhouse and a Spitz planetarium.
The Learning Center provides tutoring services free of charge in almost every subject. Make an appointment and get a head start on your studies!
Cooperative education and research agreements with the U.S. Geological Survey and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission are integral components of the Fisheries Program at Mansfield University.
Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital is located in Sayre, PA. Mansfield University has an affiliation with this hospital school where Medical and Laboratory Sciences students have to option to complete their one year of clinical study upon application and acceptance. Student Organizations
Biology Club The objectives of the Biology Club include advancing the level of biology knowledge, providing an opportunity for interaction for students with an interest in biology, and facilitating discussion on topics and careers in this field. The Mansfield University Biology Club is made up of science and non-science majors desiring to strengthen their scientific backgrounds. Members of this club have the option to participate in many activities, including field trips to places such as the Baltimore Aquarium and Smithsonian Institution.
Fisheries and Aquaculture Club The purpose of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Club is to plan and provide educational programs and activities for fish culture and biology students.
Bass Fishing Team The Bass Fishing Team serves to bring together students that have a common interest in bass fishing. The team also competes in local and regional tournaments.
Future Healthcare Professionals Club The mission of the Future Healthcare Professionals Club is to promote education in the medical field to explore career opportunities. The club also promotes community service projects.
Sigma Zeta National Science and Mathematics Honor Society Membership in Sigma Zeta is open to Science and Math majors with 3.00 overall Q.P.A. and 30 earned credits. Sigma Zeta encourages and fosters high academic standards in science and mathematics, as well as involvement in local research projects and community service.

While some of Mansfield University's professional degree programs are designed to prepare students to meet Pennsylvania's licensure or certification requirements, these programs are not necessarily compatible with licensure or certification requirements in other states. Students who plan to enroll in Mansfield's degree programs with the intent to pursue licensure or certification in states other than Pennsylvania must be aware of the professional licensure requirements in those states. Current students who are planning to undertake field experiences outside of Pennsylvania should also be aware the requirements of other states. Consistent with federal regulations, Mansfield is making a good faith effort to determine if our academic programs leading to licensure or certification meet the requirements of licensing boards in other states. Doing so requires contacting out-of-state licensing boards and having those boards review Mansfield's program curricula. As information from the out-of-state licensure boards is received, it will be posted on the University Licensure and Certification page.
