For specific course and program requirements, please consult the current undergraduate catalog.
The Electronic Media program is designed to foster knowledge in the theory, practice, and application of mass communication. This program also provides students with a background in design, writing, and audio and video production.
Completion of the Electronic Media Program prepares students to make ethical choices surrounding the operating principles of electronic media. Students will develop and improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills while analyzing historical, current, and anticipated future trends in media and communication. Qualified students are encouraged to participate in the department’s expansive internship program prior to graduation. Our relationships with alumni and the local community provide students with the connections and experience necessary to expand on their education and thrive in their chosen profession. Many Mansfield University graduates who have specialized in Electronic Media go on to pursue careers in management, sales, journalism, broadcasting, marketing, advertising, and law.
This program provides a well-rounded general education and the chance for students to design, write, edit, and create their own radio and television programs. In addition to using the studios in Allen Hall, students have the opportunity to practice and apply developed skills through Mansfield University’s broadcasting and promotional channels. These include but are not limited to:
- Mansfield University’s student-run radio station, WNTE 89.5 FM.
- MUTV, a television production featuring student-created content.
- PRSSA, The Public Relations Student Society of America.
