Make History at Mansfield
The past is a living, dynamic subject and very much a part of today. As philosopher George Santayana observed, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. If anything holds the key to understanding warfare, famine, and social crises, it's the analysis and understanding of history." At Mansfield University, our students become experts in cultural literacy and study all areas of human endeavors. They demonstrate a factual and conceptual understanding of historical events, while reflecting on the roles of race, class, gender, and ethnicity in history.

Bachelor of Arts Program in History
For specific course and program requirements, please consult the current undergraduate catalog.
The Bachelor of Arts Program in History is designed to provide a broad, balanced education in the discipline of history. Students will develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and written and oral communication through research and the application of their studies. Our faculty possesses attitudes and values conducive to lifelong and continued learning, as well as to active and effective citizenship.
Completion of the History Program prepares graduates with the knowledge and skills to be effective historians. Combined with the appropriate courses, it provides a strong background for journalism and law school. Producers of television shows, documentaries, and movies with settings in the past require a dedicated research staff to ensure historically accurate productions. Many former History graduates have pursued careers in editing, publishing, archival management, foreign service, tourism, and historical preservation.
This program provides a solid background in the methods and concepts of historical investigation and introduces students to the various schools of historical interpretation. It includes courses in American, European, and non-western history, as well as a wide variety of arts and sciences courses. The research and writing skills developed in this program open additional opportunities in many areas.

History Club
The History Club's purpose is to facilitate students' interest in history and to foster professional growth. It is open to all Mansfield University students. The Club meets frequently during each semester and plans activities that enhance history education on campus. They also explore local Pennsylvania history and its diverse cultures through day and weekend field trips. The organization's President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer are elected by History Club membership. Contact an advisor for dates and times. The History Club is a great way to meet new people who are interested in history.

While some of Mansfield University's professional degree programs are designed to prepare students to meet Pennsylvania's licensure or certification requirements, these programs are not necessarily compatible with licensure or certification requirements in other states. Students who plan to enroll in Mansfield's degree programs with the intent to pursue licensure or certification in states other than Pennsylvania must be aware of the professional licensure requirements in those states. Current students who are planning to undertake field experiences outside of Pennsylvania should also be aware the requirements of other states. Consistent with federal regulations, Mansfield is making a good faith effort to determine if our academic programs leading to licensure or certification meet the requirements of licensing boards in other states. Doing so requires contacting out-of-state licensing boards and having those boards review Mansfield's program curricula. As information from the out-of-state licensure boards is received, it will be posted on the University Licensure and Certification page.
