Dr. Johnson was a career prosecutor in New Jersey for over 25 years.  For 18 of those 25 years, he was a Board Certified Criminal Trial Attorney.  He worked in the Camden, Gloucester, and Cumberland County Prosecutors' Offices.  He retired in 2004, and then went back to school to earn a Masters degree in Criminal Justice and a PhD in Public Safety.  His research and study interests are in serial murder, violent criminal behavior, and terrorism.  His hobbies and personal interests include Wild West gunfighters, the American gangster era, the Japanese Samurai era, and everything to do with weapons of all kinds.

At Mansfield University, he has served as instructor of record for Introduction to Criminal Justice; Race, Gender, and Crime; Violent Criminal Behavior; Criminal Law; Constitutional Criminal Procedure; Serial Killer Case Study; Terrorism; Serial Murder; Criminal Justice Internships; Independent Studies; Individualized Instructions; and Senior Seminar.

Educational Background


Received Doctor of Philosophy in Public Safety degree from Capella University in 2013. Dissertation is entitled American citizens, counterterrorism, and the use of deadly force: A qualitative study.

Received Master of Criminal Justice degree in 2007 from Boston University

Received Juris Doctor degree in 1977 from Oklahoma City University, School of Law
