The World is Your Classroom
We have always strongly encouraged our students to participate in study-abroad programs, because they gain so many cultural benefits beyond improving their language proficiency. Learning to understand and participate in other cultures makes you a professionally stronger, a better candidate for graduate programs and a leader in the pursuit of your career. Our new World Languages and Cultures BA with a concentration in French, German, or Spanish underlines the importance of such experience and skills, as it requires a nine-credit minimum study abroad component.
To date, MU language students have taken part in exchange programs in Argentina, Canada (Québec), Chile, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Switzerland, and Russia, among others.
Mansfield University has established exchange programs and cooperation agreements with the Institute of Political Science (and Music Conservatory) in Toulouse, France, the Friedrich-Schiller-Universitat in Jena, Germany, and the Academia Latinoamericana de Español in Cuzco, Peru. Our membership in the International Student Exchange Programs in Washington (the world's largest study-abroad program) opens even more options to find the program that best serves your needs. ISEP is a non-profit educational network of colleges and universities in over 50 countries around the world, dedicated to helping students overcome financial and academic barriers to study abroad.
The exact cost of studying abroad varies according to destination and the type of program selected, but using the programs within our exchange agreements means that the overall cost will be in the range of what it costs to study at Mansfield (tuition and fees plus room and board). For most programs, you actually remain registered at Mansfield as a full-time student, billed by Mansfield University, and your financial aid is fully applicable toward the cost of studying abroad.
For more information about studying abroad, please, contact the Study Abroad co-directors Dr. Jonathan C. Rothermel and Dr. Jeff Bosworth. You can also visit MU's home page for International Study for more information.
