Student Council for Exceptional Children
The Mansfield Student Council for Exceptional Children is dedicated to meeting the needs of its members through:
- Advancing the professional and ethical growth of its members
- Fostering involvement of their membership
- Serving as an advocate for the purpose of enhancing the educational, professional, and life opportunities for individuals with exceptionalities.
It is the mission of the members of Mansfield's Student Council for Exception Children to advocate for individuals with disabilities both in and outside of our community. The members of CEC work to help build acceptance and understanding of exceptional individuals as well as help to integrate university students into activities with exceptional individuals in a fun and relaxed setting.
CEC works toward these goals by holding events in the community. Every semester we hold three dances and three craft nights for individuals with disabilities. We also participate in multiple community service activities and events including fundraising during Mansfield's Heritage Weekend and an autism activism week every April.

Student Pennsylvania State Education Association Conference
On March 28, 2019, Mansfield's Student Pennsylvania State Education Association (SPSEA) traveled to Kalahari Resorts and Convention Center in the Pocono Mountains to partake in a two-day conference. Mansfield's chapter was represented by Dr. Rebecca Parks, MU SPSEA faculty advisor and 21 students: Madison Canfield, Dustin Dailey, Kelly Brittingham, Carra Stevens, Emily Mosher, Madison Klopp, Niccola Wood, Bailey Miller, Parker Neal, Mckenna Haskins, Sabrina Stevens, Kourtney McCarter, Aundria Neally, Brianna Morgan, Makenzie King, Makayla Kresefski, Hannah Swartwood, Sidney Mistysyn, Emily Jones, and Sofiyah Ibidunni.
Attendees listened to the keynote address from Jennifer Wahl, the 2019-2020 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year, who spoke about the importance of perseverance and smiling in the teaching profession. Attendees also participated in breakout sessions run by many knowledgeable and experienced education professionals. Lastly, all attendees participated in an 'Outreach to Teach' service project at Clear Run Elementary Center. SPSEA completely changed the look of this school by adding color and painting beautiful murals to the inside walls throughout the entire school. The 300 plus students at this conference were all given the opportunity to change the lives of students at this school, embracing the Conference theme, 'Be The Wave of Change'. All attendees developed professionally, gained valuable insight on the education profession, became politically aware of what is happening in our state, and helped make a change in the state that we all represent.
One thing that this conference does is help create leaders. During our time at the conference there were many Mansfield participants that stepped up for regional or statewide leadership positions. Among those that ran for an executive board position are Madison Canfield, Makenzie King, Parker Neal, Emily Jones, Sidney Mistysyn, and Carra Stevens. Ms. Canfield currently holds the position of Central Region President, while Ms. King was the runner up for both Region and State Vice President. Mr. Neal holds the position of Central Region Secretary, Ms. Emily Jones is now serving as the PACE Director of the Central Region, and Ms. Mistysyn is the representative for the Central Region at the House of Delegates with Ms. Stevens being the runner up. We are extremely proud of those that hold and ran for a position as well as all the members that attended the SPSEA State Conference.
