The Outdoor Recreation Leadership Program is designed to provide students with a blend of classroom and experiential learning. In addition to the required recreation-oriented core classes, leadership training and practical skills such as geographic information system mapping are also stressed. This program includes supporting coursework in business, geology, watershed management, wilderness first aid, travel and tourism, and leadership studies. An internship, practicum, or similar work experience is also highly recommended.
Completion of the Outdoor Recreation Leadership Program prepares students for a variety of career and post-graduate paths. Students graduating with this degree have pursued careers in park services, environmental preservation and exploration, outdoor recreation and resorts, and ecotourism.
This program provides students with a hands-on education in the heart of rural, north-central Pennsylvania. Tioga County includes varied and all-season recreation opportunities, existing recreation providers, nearby state parks, state forests, state game lands, and a reputation as a first-class outdoor vacation destination. These attributes provide important resources for Outdoor Recreation Leadership majors and allow substantive in-the-field training.
